Land Acknowledgement
The Crown Forces North America 1812 operates across lands that have been home to First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Native Canadian/American peoples since time immemorial. Our members live, gather, and commemorate on the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous nations across what is now Canada and the United States.
The War of 1812 cannot be told without the Indigenous nations who fought alongside the Crown - among them the confederacy led by Tecumseh, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishinaabe, and many others whose warriors, diplomats, and communities shaped the outcome of the war. Their contributions were decisive; the promises made to them were, too often, not kept. We acknowledge both truths, and we commit to representing this history with honesty and respect.
We encourage visitors to learn about the Indigenous nations whose lands they live on at native-land.ca, and to seek out the histories and living cultures of those communities today.
